Description

Though designed by Bela Lyon Pratt in 1908, this design reflected the treasury's increasing reliance on Native American designs in its currency. Bela Lyon Pratt designed it together with the half eagle of the same year. This coin was revolutionary in that it had no raised edges but rather featured a sunken in design which would preserve the markings. Because it was not popular in its time, this specific coin is incredibly rare. This specific coin features the letters "BLP" on the obverse under the head, evidence of Bela's pride in his work.
